Kosher Products Can Be Found...
Here's my surprising best advice when you are looking for kosher products: Don't limit yourself to the kosher aisle.
This suggestion applies to everything but meat - cans, bags, bottles, boxes, refrigerated and frozen.
By "kosher product" we mean one with a symbol from a reliable kosher certifier on the label.
The smaller and more remote your community, the more this advice will be helpful. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Doesn't The Kosher Aisle Have More?
Not anymore it doesn't. The longest aisle in the biggest store couldn't possibly hold all of the foods now available under supervision.
What is your favorite?
For the health conscious there are natural and organic foods and vitamins. For your guests and you there are trendy, gourmet and upscale foods. For your special diet - special foods like sugar free, wheat free, gluten free, lactose free and lo-calorie. For working parents frozen bake-off, ready to eat or heat and serve. For travellers - mre's and meal replacements There are soups and side dishes, entrees and desserts, snacks and beverages and ingredients of all kinds.
That's A Lot of Walking!
There is a lot you can do online and by phone.
My own favorite method of saving time is to call companies directly. They have the knowledge and the incentive. They know:
- their own product line
- who certifies it
- and where to buy it.
Second best - if you don't know who makes what is to look at the certification agencies' product listings. You still have to find an outlet, but at least you know someone makes kosher anchovies!
If that doesn't work you may have to walk the aisles oggling packages. But then you get to use that favorite phrase "Hey! It's kosher!" Ahhh! The joy of being a kosher shopper! Still need help? Use this form.
